Submitting News & Other Items of Interest
Getting a Letter to the Editor published To express a viewpoint or to comment on an issue of general interest, simply:
Address a letter to the editor in care of Editor, Cumberland County News, PO Box 307, Burkesville, Ky. 42717, or Fax it to us at (270) 864-3497, or Send us an e-mail at ccn@burkesville.com. Please type "Letter to editor" in the subject line of your e-mail.
You must include your name, address and phone number (for verification). Please avoid comments that might be deemed slanderous, libelous or in poor taste. If you have further questions, contact the newspaper and ask for the editor.
Offering a news tips or stories The Cumberland County News welcomes tips on stories that are in the public interest, just as we do human interest or feature stories. Simply call the newspaper, at (270) 864-3891, and ask for the editor, Cyndi Pritchett. In fact, any of our staff members will listen to story suggestions that are judged to be in the public interest.
Recognizing student achievement During the school year, we report on student achievement and activities of students from elementary school through college. We depend largely upon colleges and universities to provide us with dean's list/honor roll information, and local schools to notify us about school happenings. We will be glad to report on your child's/grandchild's achievements.
Reporting a death Obituary notices appearing in The Cumberland County News are submitted through the funeral homes that are in charge of arrangements. While the newspaper will accept information from family members or friends about out-of-town deaths that are of local interest, we still require that the obituary be furnished by the funeral home. If the name and city of the funeral home are provided, The Cumberland County News will contact the funeral director. All local-area funeral homes are familiar with the information that will be published in an obituary.
Getting sports item, photo published The Cumberland County News Sports Editor, Carl Black, covers most local sports as possible. For more information call the office at 270-864-3891.
Reporting on those in service In most cases, news of local men and women in service is furnished to us through a military information service. In instances where significant military achievement fails to reach us, we will accept information furnished by relatives and verify it, when possible, through military channels.
